Letter from the Secretary-General,
A very warm welcome to all of you to our first ever International Medical University Model United Nations Conference, which will be taking place from the 18 to 20th of October 2019 at the International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mental wellbeing, over the decades, has changed its meaning and its role in
today’s society. Every day, we face challenging obstacles that shift our focus
from the demands of physical effort to complex mental exertion. Dealing
with such challenges in the absence of a strong mental state can lead to
confusion, misunderstanding and burnout.
Although countless initiatives were proposed by the Government through
policies and awareness campaigns, the question of its execution is highly
dependent on individuals who share similar concerns on preserving
a healthy mental wellbeing. Shedding light onto members of the public,
young and old in leveraging their acceptance of acknowledging mental
health issues is a challenge.
If we can tackle these problems and turn tables in our favor, we can
recognize a potential for personal growth for many individuals which
would lead us towards a positive social evolution worldwide. It is in this
belief that this conference has sprouted—to meet the challenges of our environment and turn that challenge into opportunity. Doing so requires each of us to take an honest look at our own shortcomings, their merits and limitations. Shifting the overall perspective of mental health calls for the right steps to be taken towards creating a significant change for a better world. Each small step matters.
Over the 3 days, we strive to be a launchpad for all future thinkers, leaders and changemakers to resolve the most exigent global issues. It is our wish that this conference will hearten your interest in international affairs and hone your educational, social, and professional skills which you will use with confidence for years to come. We are humbled to receive all of you from diverse backgrounds and cannot wait to see you shine in your own ways in sharing your unique ideas and vision. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you; and wish you all a fruitful and memorable conference, and the very best.
